Good Samaritans

Today I was out shopping and when I returned to my car it wouldn’t start.
It was very cold out and I almost broke down in tears.
I got out and lifted the hood but had no idea what I was looking for.
That’s when this older couple walked by and the man asked if he could help.
I told him it wouldn’t start but it had been fine up to this point.
He asked if it was ok to take a look and try and start it and I replied “yes please”.

He tinkered around for a few minutes, turning the key and checking the battery and told me that the battery looked pretty old and was the most likely cause of the problem. He said he could jump it and it might get me home depending how far I was going.
I thanked him and told him I didn’t want to take a chance and would just call a tow truck.
He said oh there’s no need for that, I can pull the battery out for you and you can take it into the store and buy another one and I’ll put it in for you, it will only take a few minutes.
I couldn’t believe how nice he was. He got some tools out of his car and pulled the battery, I went in and purchased a new one, he put it in the car and it started right up.
He then checked everything and put a meter on something and told me it was all good to go.
I thanked him profusely and tried to give him $40 (all I had on me) but he would have no part of it.
He said it was his pleasure to help me and his wife agreed and told me not to give it a second thought that they were just happy to help.

I must say I was completely blown away by their generosity and kindness.
There are still good people in this world and I found some today.
If and when the opportunity arises, I will be paying this kindness forward.
It warms my heart to know there is still some goodness in this crazy world.
